About me
Hi there,
I'm Alex (they/them), a deconstructed, queer pastor's kid, and survivor of conversion therapy and abuse within high control religion.
I was born into a Torah Observant Christian home, with my parents transitioning into fundamentalist apostolic Christianity when I was very young. They pastored a number of churches, and I was raised to be a pastor's wife.
My now ex husband is a leader within the Torah Observant/Hebrew Roots community, and I spent many years as a tradwife within the community. I had doubts about my faith for many years but chose to soldier through, trying to convince myself that it was all true.
My queerness forced me to begin properly reckoning with all the difficult questions I'd spent years trying to explain away through my study of Christian apologetics, and over a period of years I quietly deconstructed; before eventually leaving.
I'm now living my happy little agnostic/atheist life, and am out of the closet as a nonbinary lesbian.
It's my hope that through sharing my story and thoughts, I might be able to shed some light on the hidden side of apostolic and Torah observant fundamentalism, and help others in their own journey to freedom.
